The Brief

NTMA were relocating from two buildings in Dublin City centre to a new facility on the North Wall. With and interior designed by Perkins & Will and Coady Architects the office needed to accommodate around 850 workstations, together with comprehensive meeting facilities and break out areas.

The Solution

Following a rigorous tender process KFDT & Wagstaff were appointed to supply the FF&E for the project working with Mac Group, the office fit out specialists on the scheme. Early site visits were critical to establish access into the 10 floor building surrounded by other construction sites, and manage the complexities of delivery via atrium hoist.

NTMA wanted to ensure that the building offered an excellent environment for both personnel and sustainability, so all commercial office furniture products considered had to comply with FitWell certification, fully documented throughout the process.

With over 100 office furniture items to the brief there was scope to add value in suggesting alternative products which could either save cost or deliver a better performance. Over a 3 month period showroom visits or samples were provided for the design team to have a hands on selection of almost every item, even down to a single coat rack.

Project Insight

The core requirements of task furniture had been pre-selected, so we quickly mocked these up on site to expand the brief to electrics, IT support and privacy screens.

With 6 different workstation settings the Senator Chemistry system gave us the flexibility to achieve this in a  single range. Humanscale monitor arms completed the desktop requirements.

The client meeting suite on the 8th floor presents a stunning impression, without being too lavish, and gives users the opportunity to reconfigure the space as required.

New Design Group tables and chairs are used throughout, with Tom Dixon, Davison Highley, Fritz Hansen and Marelli creating a calm and welcoming lounge space.

Throughout the 7 working floors there are areas designed to encourage collaboration, provide quiet concentration areas or support smaller meetings.

Acoustics are improved with Offecct hanging panels, JDD meeting booths and Rawside Cage shelving. Outside terraces are furnished to provide exterior break out space, and a biophilic environment of green spaces, maximising the usage of these areas.

The ground floor provides another meeting and training area, with a visitor lounge prominent at the front of the building welcoming visitors to the space.

The lower ground houses a large cafe area, which also gives scope to use for town hall meetings and staff wellbeing facilities such as a games area and gym.

A comprehensive static and roller racking system allows for a bespoke filing solution tailored exactly to NTMA's needs.

From initial bid through to completion the furniture element of this project took 18 months to complete

12 weeks on site with deliveries phased floor by floor, we were also quick to react and accommodate a changing running order.

The finished setting provides a professional and practical work space, with innovations for users and visitors to come together and use a variety of work locations to aid productivity and wellbeing.
